Slow Roll Detroit

I Slow Roll because sometimes the only way to see a city is to get out of the comforts of your car and explore streets you normally wouldn’t venture down. Where people wave and cheer at your arrival. Where porches are filled with smiling faces. Where cups are raised in your honor. Where the only expletive is found in the words “In my whole f$#@ing life, I ain’t ever seen anything like this before.”

I Slow Roll because a city is not measured by how the world perceives it—whether great or not—but by the people who live there, struggle there, and call it their home. Where black, white, brown, red, yellow, and a rainbow of diversity shows up for the sake of showing up, no ulterior motives. Where the police are part of the solution, not part of the problem.

I Slow Roll because in a city of strangers, sometimes all you need is two wheels to become part of a motor that not only fuels the city, but the soul as well. Where you don’t have to say a word to be understood. Where music is a common language. Where love is confirmed, hatred denied, and all of life’s problems are just a bike ride away.

I Slow Roll because there’s poetry in motion. Spirit in people coming together. Beauty in diversity. Magic in community. Inspiration in solidarity. And hope in humanity.

I Slow Roll because Detroit hustles just as hard or harder than anybody on the planet and if you need proof just show up on Monday or any given day of the week and open your eyes to the real Detroit, not the one portrayed by the media on the evening news.

I Slow Roll because Slow Roll is life, entropy death.
